Northam expected to announce guidelines for schools reopening
Gov. Ralph Northam is expected to share guidelines Tuesday on how students might be able return to classrooms.
There wasn’t much warning when Northam closed schools to stop the spread of the new coronavirus on March 13, the last day that students had in-person classes. This week marks the end of the school year for districts in Hampton Roads, with all instruction remote.
The Centers for Disease Control has issued some guidance for schools on how they could approach reopening. Cloth face coverings are encouraged “as feasible” when keeping physical distance isn’t possible.

Other recommendations include reducing mixing between classes, closing communal spaces like cafeterias and playgrounds and spacing students out on school buses when possible.
The news conference at 2 p.m. will be live streamed on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, according to the governor’s office.
